Philanthropy Week 2011 plans announced
Plans to mark Philanthropy Week 2011, from Monday, November 28, to Thursday, December 1, have been announced.
Organised by Vision in Philanthropy, a partnership combining seven major local political and charitable organisations, the annual event to promote Philanthropy was launched at a special reception, hosted by the Institute of Directors, at the Reform Club on Tuesday, November 1.
Mervyn McCall, Chairman of the Institute of Directors in Northern Ireland, welcomed guests and encouraged his members to get involved with philanthropy, believing that; “Institute of Directors members – individually and in their business worlds - have a critical role to play as drivers of philanthropy.
“During economic hardship thinking about philanthropy must become more acute – resources are more scarce and needs are greater.
“So Philanthropy Week is timely and it is important that people take the opportunity to engage with it and explore the win-win of philanthropy.”
Philanthropy Week 2011 includes a packed schedule over four days, including a breakfast briefing for professional advisors, led by Emma Turner, Director of Client Philanthropy at Barclays Wealth’s UK & Ireland Private Bank and an event for young people to inspire Northern Ireland’s philanthropists of the future.
The week of events will begin with a special reception at the US Consulate in Belfast, hosted by Consul General, Kamala Lakhdhir on Monday, November 28.
