A special fund supporting economic and social regeneration in the Magherafelt council district area is now open for application.

The Workspace Community Fund targets community and voluntary groups in the Ballinascreen, Kilcronaghan and Desertmartin areas, providing around £250 for local activities.

Administered by the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland, applications are being accepted for round 3 of the awards, until the closing date of June 16 2010.

Barbara Woods from the Community Foundation said; “Workspace is an integral part of this mid-Ulster community and the fund helps improve the area, promotes community involvement, enhances the quality of life and well being of local residents and helps tackle local need.

“Any groups in the areas mentioned can apply and funds can be used for community events, transport costs, equipment, entrance fees, set-up costs or to pay for tutors.

“Workspace was established in 1982 and provides business support services and property, as well as recruitment, training and employment initiatives, energy efficiency schemes, event management, childcare and recreational activities.

“These commercial activities are pursued to generate profits that are used for the benefit for the local community.”
